Today was my first day at work.
Here's how it went -
Get up - on time, no dramas. Have a smoke, have a shower, have another smoke, wake up a little bit, get B's uniform ready for the week (coz mum's taking her in the mornings) all done before 7am.
Wait for mum.
Wait for mum some more.
Mum was meant to be here at 7:10
Mum rocks up at 7:20
That's okay though, coz my train doesn't leave til 7:29
I get to the train station, I go to buy my ticket, there's 10 people ahead of me.
I miss my train because the eftpos numberpad on the ticket machine is fucked and I can't enter my PIN. Oh well, I sorted it out.
But, it's still all good, because I allowed myself a little extra time, just incase the train was cancelled or something retarded like that, coz hey, this is Melbourne, and that's how our PT system works.
Catch the next train, it's all happy - shit what station do I get off at? Oh that's right - Parliament.. hold it, no I think I was meant to get off at Flagstaff, oh shit, I just went past flagstaff. Oh well, I'll get off at Flinders Street and take a walk, coz I really do have a lot of time to kill anyway.
I get off at Flinders, I wander down to William Street, coz I know that's where my tram goes down. On the way, I pass 4 different stops that are on my route, but hey, I didn't know that did I? Oh well, I need the exercise.
So I catch the tram, I get to work, I'm early anyway, everything's good. I meet up with my new buddies, they're all really nice, we sit down and have a chat, about 10 minutes later they ask me if I signed in and got a pass.. Oops, nah I didn't.. better do that now.
I get my pass, and then we ask for James to come and collect us. We get informed that "you're actually not meant to be starting at 9, you're starting at 9:30"
Oh well, we go outside for a smoke.
I light up my cigarette.
The fire alarm goes off.
I swear, it wasn't my fault, it was a coincidence, and it had nothing to do with me.
The guy comes from upstairs to collect us, says "oh we can't go upstairs now, there's fire alarms going off, lets just wait down here and see what happens, we're not sure if it's a drill or not.." That's when the fire brigade arrives.
We walk down to the evacuation point, we stand there for 45 minutes, then we get let back in the building.
That was all in before 10am.
The training was absolutely awesome though - I learnt a whole lot about shit I had no clue about (I don't have a credit card, so why do I need to know this stuff? Oh that's right, because you might have a credit card and might want to call me one day!)
We watched a few videos, played a few games, fiddled with the PC's.
Just incase you smokers were wondering, we have a designated smoking area on level 6 that gives us smelly smokers a view of the city. It also has a covered BBQ area and a whole bunch of awesome stuff. Oh and, it has a lawn boules thingy. Yeah, I'm serious, I can play boules at work.
The tea room has a billiard table, ping pong table, LCD TV, foozeball table, all the coffee and tea and milo and biscuits you could want.
Yeah, I think I'm really gonna like this job.
